As a classroom teacher, every one of your actions impacts student learning, student engagement, and student behavior. Highly effective teachers recognize this and do everything they can to positively impact all three.

Student Engagement

When I was a classroom teacher, my journey into understanding the dynamics of effective teaching began with the realization of the critical role student engagement plays in managing classroom behaviors.

Early on, I grasped that simply delivering information wasn’t enough.

I needed to create an environment where students were not only receptive but also actively involved in the learning process.

This realization led me to experiment with and implement a plethora of engagement strategies within my lessons.

I discovered that by diversifying my approach and incorporating various interactive techniques, I could capture students’ interest and enthusiasm, thus fostering active participation in every lesson.

This active involvement played a significant role in mitigating disruptive behaviors, as students were more invested and focused on the task at hand.

Moreover, I found that student engagement and active participation elevated the overall learning experience within my classroom. Students understood concepts better, retention rates increased, and there was a palpable sense of excitement and curiosity among my students.

One strategy that became a staple in my classroom was 4 Squares. Despite its minimal preparation requirements, its impact was profound. For more details on this highly effective engagement strategy, I invite you to watch my YouTube video, where I delve into its implementation and benefits in greater detail.

I encourage you to try 4 Squares in your classroom and leave a comment letting me know how it went.
